Ingredients we choose to use

Another question we are often asked about natural ingredients is do they really work and what effect do they really have on the skin and body. Kate, the founder of Bubbles, is a fully qualified clinical aroma therapist and a big believer in the proven results of pure essential oils, so they are used in almost every product in our range. We also use plant extracts, fruit and seed carrier oils, organic clays, active botanicals, and more, to further improve the results. Please see the table below listing all the products we use along with the properties of each and the demonstrated results they have on the skin.

Carrier Oils

Certified Organic Rosehip Oil – Extra nourishing, used for skin pigmentation and scarring, useful on psoriasis, dermatitis & eczema, Anti inflammatory, healing and regenerating properties, anti ageing.

Certified Organic Evening Primrose Oil – Moisturising, rejuvenating, softens lines, useful in repairing sun damage, hydrates even extremely dry skin, reduces inflammation like rosacea, increases elasticity.

Pomegranate Oil – Really high in antioxidants, works in synergy with Seabuckthorn oil for amazing results, improves elasticity, reduces wrinkles and prevents ageing, calming and healing – gentle enough to use on rosacea and eczema skins, anti ageing.

Sea buckthorn Oil – Vitamins A, C, E & K, More Vitamin C in weight than oranges, potent antioxidant, used to treat burns and wounds topically, great for acne and rosacea, 120 compounds and minerals, used for scarring and radiation burns, considered a “natural healer”.

Kukui Nut Oil – High in essential fatty acids, small molecular structure so it penetrates easily, high linoleic acids, soothing & softening, especially beneficial for very dry skin but light enough to use on oily skins.

Calendula Infused Oil – Anti inflammatory & wound healing, effective on rashes, dry, chapped and cracked skin, soothing and protective, relieves itching.

Borage Oil – Highest known content of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids, excellent skin conditioner, regulates skin hydration, emollient and moisturising, temporarily firms and revitalises.

Macadamia Oil -  Emollient, moisturising, absorbs well, soothing, similar to the oil found in our skin.

Sweet Almond Oil – Moisturising, fast penetrating, rich in vitamins A & E, good occlusive properties

Jojoba Oil – Actually a wax not an oil so very stable, emollient, moisturising, high in vitamins, provides skin protection keeping it supple, helps restore skins regular pH level, very similar to our own sebum, soothing for sensitive, irritated skins.

Cucumber Oil – Cooling, nutritive and soothing properties, it has a high mineral content and is refreshing on the skin.

Watermelon Oil – Helps penetration of a product, non greasy and suitable for all skin types especially babies and oily acne skins as it is does not clog pores and it light and easily absorbed,  its restorative and nourishing, balancing, rich in essential fatty acids.

Certified Organic Hydrating Base Cream

When formulating a cream from scratch that not only lasts but is effective and of excellent quality it is a precise, delicate & time consuming job.  You need a lot of different equipment, a lot of time, a lot of money and a lot of experience.  When you want this cream to be certified organic, it is even more difficult as it involves limited ingredients and very strict guidelines.  We are talking years of research and hundreds of thousands of dollars!

Because it was important to us that we avoided parabens, sulphates and other synthetic ingredients in all of our products,  a certified organic base cream was the only option available as all other base creams offered for wholesale use had a synthetic preservative of some sort.

We decided on an unscented Certified Organic Hydrating Cream manufactured by Sydney Essential Oil Company to use as the base for some of our face creams.  This way we can provide you with a cream of exceptional quality all year round without going to the expense of formulating one ourselves.  We then simply add extracts, essential oils & clays etc to create our own speciality cream.

The ingredients used in this base cream are; *Apricot Kernel Oil, *Macadamia Oil, *Jojoba Oil, *Glycerine, *Rose Hydrosol, Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate, Organic Guar Gum, *Shea Butter, *Beeswax, Parfum, Potassium Sorbate. (* Certified Organic Ingredients)

Certified Organic Balm

We have also chosen to use a Certified Organic Balm base from Sydney Essential Oil Company for our Lip Balm products to ensure a similar consistency and shelf life is obtained with each batch.  We then add natural dyes, clays, essential oils and more to create our own speciality range.

Organic Australian Clays

Kaolin Clay – Very fine pure white clay, great for sensitive skins especially the elderly and babies.

Green Clay – A detoxifying clay, for acne prone oily skin types, rebalances oil flow and strengthens the skin to reduce scarring, revitalising for dull, tired complexions.

Pink Clay – Balancing for stressed and sensitive skins, hydrates and firms, improves overall texture by soothing and refining fine lines.

Reef Red Clay – High content of iron to replenish and rejuvenate, Softening and conditioning, good for mature skin types.

Raw Ingredients

Beeswax (Natural) – It’s a natural emulsifier that hydrates and moisturises the skin with a subtle honey aroma

Vitamin E Natural – Smooths wrinkles, cools and soothes irritation of dry skin, prevents and slows signs of ageing, antioxidant, natural preservative.

Vitamin Pro B5 – Deeply penetrating, soothes irritation of dry skin, adds long lasting moisture.

Emulsifying Wax (Cetearyl Alcohol & Ceteareth 20) – binds water and oil molecules together and help thicken a product.  Produced from the reduction of plant oils and natural waxes.  Contains NO PEG’s.

Emulsifying Wax (Cetearyl Olivate & Sorbitan Olivate) – Again binds water and oil molecules and helps thicken a product.  This emulsifier is approved for use in Certified Organic products.

Jojoba Beads – Hard white microspheres that offer gentle but effective exfoliation, non irritating and non abrasive.

Mother Of Pearl – A natural bounty of the sea – this exfoliant will reveal smoother more youthful looking skin while remaining gentle to use.

Organic Honey – It’s a natural antioxidant that rejuvenates the skin and helps protect it from harmful UV rays, it is anti bacterial and a humectant (water binding product).

Certified Organic Aloe Vera Gel – Extremely hydrating – helps retain moisture, relieves irritation and inflammation of the skin, cooling, increases collagen production, contains vitamins A, B, B6, C & E – helpful in preserving product, wound healing.

Parfum (Natacide – Natural Preservative) – A vegetable origin fragrance with broad spectrum activity against Bacteria Gram Positive, Bacteria Gram negative, moulds and yeasts.  Allows label claim ‘preservative free’ and is used in organic cosmetic formulations.

Potassium Sorbate – Mild yet effective preservative, non toxic, non irritating, inhibits micro organisms, moulds and yeasts, a natural alternative to parabens, is used in organic cosmetic formulations.

Certified Organic Shea Nut Butter – Excellent emollient, offers protection from harsh weather conditions, soothes irritation, revitalises the condition of the skin, good for all skin types especially dry.

Certified Organic Cocoa Butter – Excellent emollient, provides skin protection, high in vitamin E, softens and lubricates, good for all skins especially dry.

Natural Dyes – a safe and effective way to add colour to natural products.

Certified Organic Raw Sugar – A gentle but effective way to exfoliate the skin – a natural preservative, and smells delicious!

Australian Sea Salts – Fine crystals from a natural source that softly exfoliate even sensitive skins.

Epsom Salts – Detoxifying and exfoliating, the soften the skin and reduce excess fluid.

Zinc Oxide – a physical sunscreen that acts as a reflective agent.  Soothes the irritation of dry skin, it has the ability to treat itching & skin irritations,  high antibacterial properties, it is useful as an astringent and for moist conditions like under a wet nappy!

Certified Organic Extracts

Apple – Nourishing, Moisturising, soothes dry skin, cleanses oily skin.

Bilberry – Astringent, anti couperose, vessel protective, cleanses and protects all skin types, soothes irritation of dry skin.

Carrageenan Extract – We do not add this extract ourselves – it is part of the certified organic Aloe Vera that we purchase and is used to help preserve the product.

Calendula – Emollient, protective, refreshing, relieves itching due to dryness, purifies and cleanses, protects from the drying effects of the sun.

Chamomile – Soothing, emollient, anti-inflammatory, useful for redness and sensitivity.

Cucumber – Moisture binding and regulator, tightening & soothing, relieves itching due to dryness & skin irritation, protective.

Ginseng (Siberian) – High in Polysaccharides & glycoprotein’s that smooth wrinkles and help premature ageing, ideal in firming products.

Gota Kola – Soothes the irritation of dry skin, purifying, tonic, stimulating, promotes circulation.

Green Tea – High in anti-oxidants to fight free radicals, tonic for ageing skin, diminishes appearance of wrinkles, astringent, calming and refreshing.

Horsetail Extract - Elasticising, cleanses and energises the skin.

Kiwi Extract - Peeling, moisturising, refreshing, contains AHA’s and ascorbic acid.

Liquorice Root Extract –Helps slow signs of premature ageing, soothing and nourishing, calms the irritation of very dry skin, sebum regulating and ideal for the use in whitening products.

Marshmallow Extract – Soothes the irritation of dry skin, protecting and softening, emollient.

Nettle Extract – Stimulating, astringent and cleanses oily skin.

Papaya Extract – Purifying, refreshing, moisturising, soothing to dry, irritated skin.

Passionflower Extract – relaxing and calming, refreshing and nourishing.

Pomegranate Extract­ – Potent antioxidant and free radical scavenger that reduces the appearance of age lines and wrinkles, helps skin look younger, protects from environmental stresses.

White Tea Extract – More powerful antioxidant than green tea, protective tonic for ageing skin, diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, protects from the drying effects of the sun.

White Willow Bark Extract – Naturally contains salicylic acid which gently exfoliates the skin and helps control excess sebum without irritation.

Essential Oils

Carrot Seed – SKIN - improves complexion, adds tone and elasticity for ageing & mature skin, strengthens effect of red blood cells. MIND – Cleansing effect on the mind and relieves stress & exhaustion.

Chamomile (Roman) – SKIN - effective for inflamed skin, cracked nipples, puffy skins, acne, sensitive skins, any skin irritations.  Reduces redness, accelerates healing, strengthens tissues. MIND – Calms the mind & promotes relaxation & peace.

Clary Sage – SKIN - effective for inflamed puffy skin & wrinkles, cell regenerating, nourishes tired skin. MIND – warming & relaxing, revitalising, calms a racing mind.  It restores harmony and regenerates an interest in life.

Frankincense – SKIN  - smooths out wrinkles on ageing skin, skin tonic, effective for inflammation, scars, mature skin and dry irritated skin, combats the ageing process. MIND – elevating and soothing, calming, brings peace, promotes slow breathing & strengthens creativity.

Grapefruit – SKIN - Acts as a detoxifier reducing cellulite, astringent, helpful for congested ‘teenage’ skin.  MIND - uplifting and reviving, alleviates stress and nervous exhaustion.

Helichrysum (Immortelle) – SKIN – Cell regenerator, heals scars, stretch marks and couperose, effective for eczema, acne, dermatitis.  MIND – induces relaxations and sleep, effective for nervous exhaustion, mood swings, burnout & loneliness.

Jasmine – SKIN – effective on dry, sensitive skins, skin elasticity, stretch marks, scarring, inflamed or irritated skins.  MIND – calms nerves, renews passions for life, it is emotionally soothing and relaxing.  Releases feelings of fear and helps you feel supported.

Juniper – SKIN – effective for oily congested skins, acne and blocked pores, inflamed & irritated skins, dermatitis & eczema.  MIND – clears & stimulates, clears negative energy, uplifting, encourages positivity, peace and creativity.

Lavender – SKIN – effective on itchy skin, burns, acne, eczema, dermatitis, scratches and rashes.  Promotes cell growth.  Calming and suitable for babies and sensitive skins.  MIND – relieves exhaustion and promotes relaxation, effective for stress, mental distraction, irritability and burnout.  Helps you to re-group your energies and move on.

Lemongrass – SKIN – open pores, acne, oily skin conditions, tightens elastin weakness. MIND – stimulating, reviving, energising – lifts spirits and aids recovery from fatigue and jet lag.  Great for morning fatigue.  Remove limitations and restrictions and truly start living!

Lime – SKIN – astringent, toning, effective for greasy skin and acne.  Suitable for any skin type including sensitive skins.  MIND – refreshing, uplifting, increases alertness and assertiveness – taking you to a place where life is sweet and easy!

Mandarin – SKIN – softening, moisturising & soothing to dry irritated skin.  Suitable for babies and sensitive skin types.  MIND – uplifting, aids restlessness and nervous tension,  it allows you to feel calm and soothed but at the same time refreshed and inspired!

May Chang – SKIN – tonic and astringent to the skin, acne and oily skins.  MIND – Stimulating and uplifting, effective for depression and nervous anxiety.  It helps you get rid of the ‘poor me’ mentality!

Neroli – SKIN – skin regenerator, improves skin elasticity, relieves dry sensitive skins,  oily skins and acne skins.  MIND – promotes joy and peace.  Increases mental concentration – it is an antidepressant that lifts the mood and gaurds against insomnia.

Orange Sweet – SKIN – effective for dry skin, wrinkles, dermatitis, irritated skin, acne dull and oily skins.  It maintains normal skin in good condition. Increases cell hydration and supports regeneration.  MIND – relieves depression and negative though patterns, increases confidence and energy levels.  It removes the seriousness and helps you find your sense of humour.

Palmarosa – SKIN – restores water balance, stimulates natural secretion of sebum, oily or dry skin – it balances sebum production, cell regenerator, skin regrowth & wrinkles, hydrating effect on the skin tissue, calming and refreshing.  MIND – effective for morning fatigue, calming but at the same time uplifting so great for ‘off’ days, allowing you to embrace change and let go…

Patchouli – SKIN – effective for acne, inflamed skin, rejuvenating for mature skin, rough dry skins, wrinkles, scar tissue and enlarged pores.  MIND – nervous exhaustion, sharpens and clarifies the mind, it awakens a sense of peace that will reach all levels of your being.

Peppermint – SKIN – refreshing skin tonic, redness and irritation, inflammations and sunburn, itching, softens skin.  MIND – cools anger, tonic to the mind promoting alertness – clears the head and invigorates the spirit.  Keeps your passion potent and ready to meet lifes challenges!

Rose Damask – SKIN – soothing, suitable for all skin types especially mature, effective for inflammation, redness, wrinkles and acne with hydrating properties.  MIND – helps release dopamine the ‘happy hormone’ to aid depression and anxiety, effective for grief, resentment and stress.  It soothes the heart and brings relaxation.

Rose Geranium – SKIN – helps balance sebum – increase in dry and decrease in oily, clears and refines oily and sluggish & congested skins.  Good for all skin types.  MIND – Relieves feelings of stress and mental exhaustion, anxiety and overwhelm.  Uplifting and renewing.

Rosewood – SKIN – cell stimulant, tissue regenerator for aged skin, effective on dull, dry, sensitive and inflamed skin, wrinkles and acne.  MIND – uplifting and balancing, comforting and relaxing, heighten your perceptions and be open to the abundance of the universe.

Sandalwood – SKIN – balances oil in the skin, effective for dehydration, itching, irritation, inflammation, acne, cracked and chapped skins.  Increases circulation and strengthens connective tissue and dermis, increases water retention of collagen.  MIND – promotes calm and wellbeing,  brings peace and acceptance, great for stilling the mind and meditation.  Free yourself from other peoples negativity and enjoy life.
